10-14 November 2013, Kagoshima, Japan
●この会の設立について

<島嶼海洋文化FORUM>

<East Asian Island and Ocean Forum, EAIOF>

1. Purpose and goal

To develop cooperative discussion and academic activity on diverse issues related to human cultures and eco-environments in maritime areas and islands in the East Asian region, we establish <東亞亞島嶼海洋文化FORUM, East Asian Island and Ocean Forum, EAIOF>.

Goal of the forum is to create an academic platform to communicate issues on sustainability and coexistence of maritime areas and islands in the East Asian region in the 21st Century.

2. Participating institutes

Establishment of this forum begins with cooperative institutes in China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan. The initially expected institutes are as follows:

- China: Institute of Oceanic Culture (Guangdong Ocean University), Institute of Oceanic Culture (Ocean University of China), Ocean and Island Culture Research Institute (Zhejiang Ocean University), Ocean Culture and Economic Research Center (Shanghai Ocean University), Quanzhou Maritime Museum

- Japan: Institute for the Study of Japanese Folk Culture (Kanagawa University), International Institute for Okinawan Studies (The University of the Ryukyus), Research Center for the Pacific Islands (Kagoshima University)

- Korea: Institution for Marine & Island Cultures (Mokpo National University), National Research Institute of Maritime Cultural Heritage

- Taiwan: Institute of Oceanic Culture (National Taiwan Ocean University)

Other future participating institutes will be considered by discussion.

3. Structure and Function of the Forum

During each meeting, the host country and institute for the next forum meeting will be decided through mutual consultation.

The forum will be held once a year, the time of which is decided through mutual consultation.

The structure of the forum is composed of an organizing committee, a standing committee and a secretariat office. The organizing committee is composed of representatives (ex. director of institute) of the institutes participating in the forum. The standing committee, chaired by the host institute, consists of one contact person for every participating institute to facilitate working-level communication. The secretariat office is decided by the host institute and manages all works for the forum including excursion.

Theme of the forum is decided through discussion by the organizing committee.

The forum is fundamentally based on voluntary presenters. Fees on accommodation and meals, as well as traveling fees to and from the forum, should be paid by participating institutes or by persons themselves. The host institute will cover the costs for excursions.

Papers should be presented in English OR in the host country’s language, whereas proceedings or abstracts should be prepared in both English AND the host country’s language.
